want to go blonde for the summer?

Q: “I’d love to go blonde for summer but I’ve heard it’s a lengthy process as I have natural dark brown hair and can be damaging to hair. How long will it take for me to be a lovely honey colour and will I ruin my hair in the process?”

A: Blonde is a great colour for the summer! Everyone wants that gorgeous sun kissed look in the summer months. The truth is that because your hair is currently dark it may take three or more appointments to be able to lift it to a honey blonde safely.

I would advise that you opt to go blonde gradually by applying highlights throughout the hair then this will reduce the danger of damaging or drying the hair out as a bleach will need to be applied along with a toner to knock out the red tones that you currently have in your hair.

The other option is to remove the old colour from your hair, this is usually done by most people by using bleach, but in the right hands doesnt mean its a complete no no, however this can be damaging and often leaves warmer undertones to the hair so after care is essential and its a necessity to go to someone who knows theyre stuff.

Make sure that you go to a Senior Colour Technician who is trained in colour correction when you book your appointment. When going for a drastic change it is always a good idea to do your research and find a good colourist – even if it ends up costing more.

You need to remember that colour maintenance and care doesn’t end on the salon floor. Blonde hair needs a lot of care. The environmental elements that we are exposed to everyday can lead to blonde hair turning yellow or orange so be sure to invest in a silver shampoo to apply once or twice a week.

Go for it! We love blondes and it’s a gorgeous colour for summer. Honey is one of our favourite tones in the salon! I would advise you to start aiming for caramels or toffee shades and build up to honey. Happy blonding!
